PORK

Pork labelling

In contrast to the identification of origin for beef (“beef labelling”), which has already been required for almost 10 years, there exist no regulations whatsoever of this sort for other kinds of meat.

In the poultry meat sector, the industry opted for voluntary, independently monitored labelling of origin in the first years of the new century. This was intended to allow better management of marketing actions and secure competitive advantages by giving evidence of origin.

In the pig meat sector, there now also exists, for the agricultural stage, a national pig data-base analogous to that for cattle identification, in which the animals and their movements must be registered. However, this serves primarily for the prevention of epidemics and not to provide evidence of origin to the consumer.

To date, the voluntary ORGAINVENT System for the identification of origin of pig meats has been employed by just a few, typically regionally operating trading partners (slaughterhouses, cutting plants, retail chains).

A special adhesive paper exists for the labelling of pig carcases; it was developed in 2001 in association with the company VPF (Veredelungsgesellschaft mbH für Papiere und Folien) & Co. KG in Sprockhövel. You can find more detailed information on this directly from VPF .

We would be pleased to work with you to adapt our labelling system for pig meats to the requirements of your business. Please contact Mr Peter Jürgens (Tel. + 49 228 - 35 06 101).
